Our collaboration with the Corvus Consort is an exciting new venture. We have known Freddie Crowley for many years and are delighted to have the opportunity to work with his new vocal ensemble, the Corvus Consort.

Our contemporary musical sounds are grounded by the warmth and gravitas of the Consorts vocal polyphony and sacred music.

This combined etherial and ancient music will reverberate around the inner spaces of some of the UK's most intimate and sacred spaces, shining a light of optimism, reconnecting communities, and sharing the past with the infinite possibilities of the future.

In 2023 Corvus has commissioned four composers for their Byrd Takes Flight project to be first performed at the Whiddon Autumn Festival in September 2023. We hope to take the programme on a UK tour towards the end of 2023.

Marking 400 years since William Byrd’s death in 1623, this project explores the enduring strength of his influence, which stretches right through to the 21st century.

Each new commission is composed as a partner-piece to a particular work by Byrd, taking the same text and drawing musical inspiration from Byrd’s original. The two works will then be presented in concert as a pair, placing Byrd’s musical voice in direct dialogue with the voices of some of today’s most exciting young composers.
